Gas for breakfast

You have to wonder about an eatery that calls itself Gas...

But it's actually my favourite Melbourne breakfast place (and I have had the chance to do lots of comparative studies since August 2007...)

The food and the coffee are always great; there are always enough newspapers to go round; and the environment (long benches and bar stools inside, tables, chairs, and umbrellas outside) is homely and comfy.

But what I like best is that they change the breakfast menu. They're innovative. They don't assume that you'll want the same things for breakfast month in, month out...

So the good old stalwarts like Middle Eastern Eggs are always available. But there are always specials. The other week, for example, I had a spicy combination of avocado, corn, and tomato, with bacon on the side. This morning I had a hearty helping of white beans cooked in thyme, served on sourdough toast and topped with poached eggs.

I noticed they also have a decadent chocolate offering that really needs to be checked out for Christmas...
