Woori Yallock to Warburton by Train

As we had been been here before we were able to descend from the bus and head straight for the public conveniences of Woori Yallock. Then down the hill to the station, to the bench and into the tuna buns. So far, except for the lack of coffee, all as it was two weeks previously when we last visited the site of Woori Yallock station.
We were here to walk the other half of the Lillydale to Warburton Rail Trail so we set off in the opposite direction with open fields to the left. We have been in the Yarra Valley many times before but for the first time there is a cloudless blue sky.
As a result of the recent rains we soon come across a section of valley with many billabong. Former parts of the Yarra river left behind as the river meanderings have changed over the years.
The downside of the clear skies is that it is hot, especially as there is little breeze and we are grateful for every tree which casts shade across the track. By the time we have reached the half way point at Yarra Junction we need top up our water supply, eat bananas and check that we are in sufficient good order to continue whilst we rest in the shade.
Then we are off again but at a slightly slower pace. The next few kilometers is dead straight across the valley floor. Wesburn station is another refreshment stop, water and bhuja mix and then on.
At Milgrove station the track becomes bitumen sealed for the first time and the main road is immediately to your left. This is the second time that we have accompanied by the sight and (worse) sound of the busy traffic and is the major annoyance when you are out for a walk. But we continue on and three kilometers later we arrive at the end of the line at Warburton where we reward ourselves with ice creams and watching the kids play in the river until the bus arrives to take us back to Lillydale.
Today was only 17km as opposed to the 23km plus of the previous walk but the relentless sun compensated for the lesser distance.
