The other day we walked down to St Johns via the ~{purplepost~=1395~;text~=old railway~;target~=walk~}. On Friday and today we walked the rest of the line to Higher Foxdale.

~{nilimage~=143613~;dir~=H~;alt~=valleyhead~}
~{nilimage~=143634~;dir~=H~;alt~=terrace~}
~{nilimage~=143635~;dir~=H~;alt~=whitehouse~}
~{nilimage~=143612~;dir~=H~;alt~=station~;caption~=The old ~{link~= http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/f/foxdale/ ~;text~=station~;target~=oldstation~} building~}
~{nilimage~=143650~;dir~=H~;alt~=river~;caption~=The river that feeds the waterfall -- ~{purplepost~=1395~;text~=our waterfall~;target~=walk~}. There was a railway station here too~}
~{nilimage~=143651~;dir~=H~;alt~=lineup~}
There are plenty of handsome old buildings in Higher Foxdale (although if you credit ~{link~= http://www.abc.org.im/BAR/BAR054%202018-07-17%20Foxdales%20proud%20heritage.pdf ~;text~=this article~;target~=heritage~}, more could have been done to preserve the village's mining heritage):
~{nilimage~=143653~;dir~=H~;alt~=baltic~}
~{nilimage~=143654~;dir~=H~;alt~=chapel~}
~{nilimage~=143632~;dir~=H~;alt~=millenniumstone~}
~{nilimage~=143608~;dir~=V~;alt~=clocktower~;caption~=The 1901 clock tower~}
~{nilimage~=143606~;dir~=V~;alt~=plaque~}
~{nilimage~=143609~;dir~=H~;alt~=church~;caption~=St Paul's~}
~{nilimage~=143611~;dir~=H~;alt~=graveyard~}
~{nilimage~=143633~;dir~=H~;alt~=tree~}
And if you carry on past the end of the village, you get to Kionslieu Reservoir:

The weather has not been fantastic since we arrived. No, let's be honest, it's been appalling. But there's so much to like:
