Snack heaven

by prudence on 17-Dec-2011
I have a major worry about being in Malaysia for a year... It's just not going to be long enough to try all the food...

Lately we've been focusing on snacks.

Jombali, at the entrance to Carrefour, does great drinks and desserts -- from bright pink Bandung (like turkish delight in a glass) to soya milk with cincau (little jelly-like bits that turn your drink into almost-a-meal) to fruit rojak (a selection of guava and green mango in a spicy, sweet, peanutty sauce), to sago served with that deliciously caramelly palm sugar (or gulah Melaka).

At Imbi market on Sunday, courtesy of a kind local, we tried delicious little rice-flour pancakes -- just slightly sweet, and very crispy and light.

I mentioned I Love Yoo! and their delicious sesame balls in a previous post, but last week we also tried the twin fried-bread sticks (you tiao), and their cousins, butterfly buns, which are flecked with sesame and slightly sweeter.

And we've also become slightly addicted to Sisters Crispy Popiah. These are little packages of cooked veges, crispy salad veges, spicy sauce, and crunchy peanuts. A very yummy little five-bite snack -- and hey, with all those veges, they've got to be positively good for you, right?

So many treats. And dear Lord, we haven't even scratched the surface...
