Keeping up the standard

Last year this blog had one post which, it has to be admitted, was not actually of "particularly high quality". So, even if this is as good as it gets in 2016 I can rest easy in that I have maintained the status quo and things could possibly improve!
Nearly four years ago I threatened to do some work to bring this website into the modern age. Since then the inadequacies of the photos section have especially made themselves felt and so planning and experimentation is underway for an overhaul of NilAligned.Net
Without going into great detail, this does involve a fair bit of research into how other websites do it, buying the odd book on those areas of web technology where knowledge is lacking, day-dreaming and taking photos of monorail trains:
