POTS - Plain Old Telephone Service

Recently the bank upgraded my debit card to one that does payWave but otherwise I thought it was still basically the same card.

So yesterday when I tried to top up my tablet phone account via the internet and everything proceeded as usual until the very end when the phone company put up a page with words to the effect "We have problems, but we are working on it".

I took this at face value and gave them a day to feel better about life.

Unfortunately today was no better, in fact it was worse. Not only could I not top up my account with my phone company, I could not top up another account with a different phone company.

Being an engineer most of my life I applied a little brain power to the problem and considered that as in both cases we were running with recorded card details then perhaps I needed to update the details.

So first Maxis. Now I knew that this was not straight forward from having been through this process once before and eventually arriving at the correct place by some sort of none repeatable magic. But I gave it go.

Use the Hotlink App - I can enter card details but not edit saved detailed.
Log into Maxis Pay through the Top-Up link - ditto.
Log into My Maxis - it points me at My Hotlink.
Log into My Hotlink - no where to change card details.

Being an engineer most of my life I am now well and truly annoyed that this is so difficult.

Do a Google search and many link clicks later I find the secret way of logging in (all this is the same login you understand) and getting into the bit of the Maxiverse that allows you to change card details.

And then you top-up the tablet.

Then it is Digi's turn. They have moved on from their old Customer Confusion System called 'My Digi' to something called Connect, unless that is just a new login bit, but the old system apparently lets me log in and then tells me to login to Connect, which asks me for stuff which the old system knows and then gets confused or I get confused, probably because we have two mobiles. Logging in also involves receiving text messages with access codes from Norway.

So a thorough search round all the corners of what is either 'My Digi' or Connect or whatever because at this stage I am totally confused and I see no where to update card details and the one phone on the account is not the one I want to top-up anyway. Great.

So eventually you end up clicking on likely looking buttons and seeing what comes up, deciding whether to pursue it or not.
You email inbox is starting to fill with confirmations that you have changed something, which you will probably need to change back and the access codes keep coming in.

Eventually you top-up by other means and have a trail of confusion to sort out.

Surely it was not always so difficult?
