Waiting in KL
by prudence on 18-Feb-2013
We're still waiting for the visas. I'll draw a veil over the details. In a while, I hope, they won't matter...
Looking on the bright side, we've had the chance to enjoy some more of KL. Here are some highlights:
-- rejoicing in the views from our window;
-- finally getting to try three-layer tea (actually ours was four layers, with the gula melaka, evaporated milk, and tea topped off with tea jelly);
-- discovering kaya balls (kaya tucked into one-inch-diameter bowler hats made of a pancake-like material);
-- remembering what a great dish pan mee is (you can't beat the fabulous combo of springy noodles, mushrooms, pork, ikan bilis, and "sweet leaves");
-- savouring the awesomest bak kut teh with friends at Xhin Fhong's eatery in Sungei Way (a little family place tucked away down a lane near the Indian temple -- really, really good bak kut teh, served by lovely people, who had their sugar cane ready for the Jade Emperor, Nigel noticed);
-- visiting the famous Lot 10 foodcourt;
-- being encouraged by a once-and-future colleague over lunch at KLCC;
-- watching Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons (a great mix of quest, adventure, slapstick, martial arts, and special effects);
-- taking in more CNY atmosphere;
-- getting slightly addicted to Each-a-Cup milk teas.
