Little trips round Yogya -- 19 -- back to Kotagede

It's a long time since we've walked to Kotagede. It's another pleasant ricefields-and-villages route.

Our object this time was the Kotagede Mosque, which -- despite several trips this way already -- we have never really looked at in detail.

This is the oldest mosque in Yogya. Inside the beautiful pillared walls are a fine old building and an impressive clock (not to mention an exuberant group of children). Outside are ancient pools where people were washing clothes, and a labyrinth of wonderfully picturesque streets.

Goats are a prominent feature of Kotagede at the moment. Whether parked in pens in the shade by the roadside, or pictured on banners, they are a powerful reminder that Eid al-Adha is on its way.

Walked back to Giwangan, and took a mechanized becak (BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ) home, where we compensated for the irritating shutness of the old ice shop we had planned to visit in Kotagede by making our own bandungs: syrup, milk, and water. Tasted pretty good.
