A tropical downpour

by nigel on 12-Jan-2010
It is the wetter season in Singapore, and we are currently experiencing the most violent thunderstorm either of us can remember in a long time.

It started out normally enough as a typical bit of afternoon rain but the wind continued to strengthen and the rain grew heavier. Lightning flashed around us and the thunder followed immediately and hurt the ears.

I was forced to dash out on the covered balcony and collect the washing before it either got completely wet again or worse, blew away.

Singapore builds for rain, there are no gutters on the buildings and there are drainage ditches all over the grounds but the ditches are overwhelmed and the ground is flooding.

drain overload Drain overload!

Even more impressive is that once the rain eased to a more normal rate all that water rapidly drained away.
