Little trips round Yogya -- 46 -- Goa Pindul

The Gunung Kidul (which I love) is full of caves. (You may remember that three years ago Prudence boldly tackled Goa Cerme.)

Today's trip, taken in company with most of the Semester 2 contingent of IPIREL, was a very relaxing experience. You collect a big inner tube, walk it down to the river, seat yourself in it (as elegantly as you can), link yourself to your fellow tubers either side, and float decorously through a very impressive cave. There are great stalagmites and stalactites, lots of bats, green-fringed holes in the roof, and a pool at the end where you can swim.

Of course, it's a bit risky to take your camera in there. But the Cave Tubing website provides a pretty good idea of the underground scenery.

This struck me as a really well organized enterprise, into which someone has put a lot of thought.

Add to the cave experience the scenic drive up through beautiful Gunung Kidul, a warming ginger drink after tubing to avoid "masuk angin", and an excellent lunch (including the crispiest little fish ever), and you get a grand day out.

The only thing needed to top it off was kopi Jawa and grilled bananas (one set with cheese and one set with chocolate) at Just-Ai on the way home.
