Jalan Ipoh is a photogenic road. At any time of the day, its places of worship draw the eye. And it has an intriguing ruined building that would be the perfect backdrop for those fashion mags that prefer a grittier look.

But the morning sun and clear air (yes, the haze has abated for the time being) turned everything to gold this morning. With the right atmospherics there is beauty everywhere.

Having failed to find the requisite special breakfast on Jalan Ipoh, however, we bussed down to KLCC, and tried out Chinoz. Their "pain perdu" (cinnamon eggy bread with peanut butter, mascarpone, and banana compote) was worth finding, I can tell you.

Home on the bus, getting off at our preferred bus stop by The Seasons hotel. One of the chefs lives in our block, and keeps telling us we should try out the lunch buffet.

Anyway, this is our bus stop on late teaching nights, and for a while I have been meaning to photograph the hydrant-in-the-garden. Walking through this little space always cheers my heart. To an absurd extent. Someone took the trouble to plant a garden round the hydrant. I love that. So here's my homage to the hydrant:
