Little trips round Yogya -- 60 -- Museum Anak Kolong Tangga

I don't know why we didn't find this place while we lived in Yogya.

But better late than never, as it's a wonderfully whimsical, quirky experience, bursting with toys and other childhood memories from all around the world.

And we reached it by walking the serene, charming streets of the Kraton and Kauman, which is always a pleasure in itself.

We briefly talked to the museum proprietor, who explained they were looking for larger premises, as the current location (delightful though it is, literally "under the stairs" of the theatre at Tama Budaya) allows them to display less than a tenth of their collection.

My parents used to drive me crazy in museums, with their frequent cries of "we used to have one of those". Well, now we're doing it too... Nigel found "Jane's skates". And I was reminded of my old wooden, push-along horse, Oxo, whom some stupid adult visitor sat on and broke, and of the metal mechanical toys we used to have when I was a child. One was a wind-up monkey banging a drum, and they'd been handed down at least one generation.

Anyway, rather than nostalging away like this, I'll sign off with some photos:
