Balls, buns, and Bond
by prudence on 10-Nov-2015You may have noticed we've been over-indulging in expensive places lately.
So for our pre-Spectre snack, we fell back on a cheap-and-cheerful favourite, I Love Yoo.
We've long been a fan of their sesame balls (which come variously stuffed with lotus paste, red bean, or -- my favourite -- peanut).
But new to me was the "pulut bun". This is called "mix bun" in other stores, which is possibly why I've missed it, because I can't imagine going past anything with "pulut" in the title. Anyway, the mix is a nice one: soft dough and glutinous rice.
And Bond? Well, all the formulaic blocks were there. The bit where he's in trouble with his boss. The hand-to-hand combat on a moving vehicle (a couple of those). The torture scene. The car chase. The saving-the-damsel bit. The guy who's out to take over the world...
Enjoyable enough. As some critics have noted, it was beautifully shot. And those explosions were thumpier than I remember. Nothing to really dazzle, though.
And I really can't imagine why anyone would think it suitable for small children...
This was our first outing to the only recently opened cinema in the still relatively new Putra Mall. Definitely no bad thing to have another local flix.
