KL diary: A grand (French) day out

My first day off since we got back from India... Really, all go at the moment.

Anyway, it was a good 'un, so that's all that matters.

We had booked to hear a Sunday afternoon concert by the MPO. It was an all-French programme, so I thought, "Why not a French lunch to go with it?"

We picked Maison Francaise, and indulged in their sumptuous Sunday brunch.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Seven courses. Seven small, thoughtfully combined, beautifully plated courses. (For the record: cauliflower cream soup with scallops; smoked salmon salad; scrambled egg with shredded duck confit; seared sea bass fillet with lentils; braised lamb shank with charred eggplant gratin; camembert and pear; and flambeed amarena cherries with vanilla ice cream.)

Accompanied by an excellent French red, and deliciously crusty bread.

The concert brought us Debussy's Prelude to The Afternoon of a Faun (which felt languidly appropriate after our decadent brunch), Poulenc's Sinfonietta, and Saint-Saens's organ symphony. As the programme notes so aptly put it, we got, respectively, "lambant colours and tonal ambiguities... light-hearted banter and frivolity... and sonic grandeur and majesty".

Excellent day. Still feeling glowy.
