KL diary: A Northeast Asia feel to the week

Yes, indeed. There's been a lot of NEA this week.

This extraorindary Kim Jong-nam story continues to reverberate. Truly, if you saw this stuff in a K-drama, you'd deem it even more exaggerated than usual. Yet, here we have it. Real life in action.

On a much sweeter note, we tried croissant taiyaki. This consists, like its traditional namesake, of a sweet filling inside a fish-shaped case. Here, though, the outer wrapper is croissant-like, just slightly crisped up with a layer of sugar. My filling was green tea custard and Nigel's red bean. They were both pretty nice. Just what you need between making the most of the Pullman's happy hour and shopping for DVDs and hojicha.

Our latest, totally insane K-Drama apparently has several alternative titles. Let's stick with Marry me, Mary. If you imagine you're watching a pantomime, it works just fine. As with many of these K-dramas, you can get fabulous synopses, so if a migraine has dulled your concentration for an episode, you can catch right back up again...

Not Northeast Asian, but relatedly Southeast Asian (kind of) was the Vietnamese chicken salad I had on our second visit to Peter Hoe. Very flavoursome. There are not many truly excellent places for salad, so this is definitely worth visiting more often. The iced lemon tea was also good.
