(Briefly) Hong Kong again
by prudence on 05-Jan-2018This was our fourth brief sojourn in HK, and the last was almost nine years ago. Getting the bus into town from the airport, I realized I'd forgotten how incredibly BIG the mountains are, and how incredibly STEEP.
On our first couple of visits we did fairly standard tourist stuff; the third time we stayed entirely on Lantau Island.
But back on that first trip, in 2002, we'd popped out to Sha Tin, in the New Territories, to visit the really admirable Heritage Museum. This time round, we thought this area would be a good base for our 1.5-day stay. It was.
Without over-exerting, you can:
-- Visit the Wong Uk Old House
-- Walk the riverside
-- Visit the 10,000 Buddhas Monastery
-- Take the MTR and/or the light railway (aka tram) to the absolutely delightful Ping Shan Heritage Trail
-- Eat some great HK food (for example, spicy pork noodles, spicy beef noodles, barbecued pork with greens and rice, Hong Kong-style milk tea, and tea and pastries with buddhas...)
-- And still fit in a reasonable amount of work...
