Reading China's walls
by prudence on 01-Feb-2018Walls in China carry vast amounts of information... For a start, there are party exhortations. The above is just one example of many, many, many.
It means: "Seriously study the publicity and implementation of the spirit of the 19th National Congress. Open a new course for building an all-round socialist modern nation."
It took me quite a while to figure out the characters, and at the end of the day it's not that inspiring, but I was kind of happy that I could even do it.
The one below lists the "core socialist values", including prosperity, democracy, justice, patriotism, and dedication. These are absolutely everywhere, although the styles vary.
I saw very few of the famous Chinese dream poster, although the same type of ceramic children appear on this one, which rhymes out a celebration of China's prosperity:
But you also get walls full of what seems like advice on how to be a model citizen:
I wish I had enough Chinese to do a "great walls of China" project.
