KL diary: A week of smooth
by prudence on 26-Aug-2016-- Trying out smoothie bowls. Which are in, apparently. And it's easy to see why. They're delicious, beautiful, and reasonably healthy (surely?). Ours were from the highly recommendable Ola Bowls. Mine was the mango base, with a surround of mango slices, and a topping of pomegranates, granola, chia seeds, and sunflower seeds. Nigel's slurp of choice was the banana and avocado base, topped with goji berries, crushed almonds, cranberries, bananas, and coconut flakes.
-- Visiting Artelier for coffee. This is a very smooth place, with a palpable love of coffee. We went for the special, Papandayan, from West Java, which has an amazing bouquet of jackfruit, and is served in a little jug so that you can enjoy that aroma before pouring it into your glass and drinking it. We got to try a little of the Kenyan, too, as the friendly barista was brewing up a batch. All very smooth.
-- Enjoying a silky performance of Shakespeare's sonnets up at KLPAC. Another in the Shakespeare 400 series that we'd enjoyed before, the evening blended a really great conception (an interweaving of sonnets recited classically and sonnets performed through contemporary music) with a flawless execution. I love that this man's work can resonate down the centuries and across the cultures. I loved hearing these shimmering words spoken by warm Malaysian voices, and seeing the eternal themes of love and grief and politics contextualized in Malaysian music and sensibilities. I loved the plurality of the interpretations ("MY reaction to this sonnet was this..."). And the voices were superb. Bravo!
-- Savouring smooth, melty-delicious Indian sweets from a neighbouring place we were trying for first time.
