I thought I had seen it, but I had not.

Once I started watching it "again" I discovered that I had probably never actually seen the original Alien movie, but I presume I have watched both the sequels.
I watched it over the course of two nights stopping on the first night at the point where, whilst trying to track down the Alien, they find the ships' cat in hiding and he promptly does a runner.
I then proceeded to worry about what happens to the cat until I was very glad to discover that he not only survives but keeps Sigourney Weaver, the only human survivor, company on the trip home.
It is a good movie, better by far than the sequels, and I can not believe that it has been kicking around for thirty years and I thought I had seen it, but I had not.
I recently bought the Mad Max trilogy and failed to recognize a single frame of the original movie. Although some of the scenery was familiar, being filmed round Melbourne. Now I know I have seen this before, that I liked the movie, and yet it has left no trace in my memory.
I also recall the first time I re-watched The Bourne Identity, although bits were very familiar a lot of it was a total revelation to me. The Bourne Supremacy was the same.
Yet on the other hand I have also seen Gattaca for the first time in nearly twenty years and remembered most of it, but not the bit about them being brothers!
So how many of my all time great movies will be a fresh experience if I find the DVD on special or it is on the TV?
So much to look forward to.
