Yeah, there are, actually...

Indonesian foods I don't like, that is.

Admittedly, there are not many, as this blog's overall enthusiasm will have indicated. This is pretty much food heaven as far as I'm concerned.

But there are a couple of things I find myself unable to handle.

Cow skin is one... If anyone had asked me beforehand, I would have expressed the view that cow skin is something you wear, not something you eat. Having tried it, I am all the more convinced that this is the case...

And the other is this mania for combining cheese and chocolate. These are both excellent products in my view -- but not together. Yet they figure together in a whole range of biscuits in my local convenience store. My tea-time chocolate roll the other day came complete with cheese on top. (I had to eat it, being largely a you've-got-to-try-it kind of person -- and I am confirmed in my opinion that this is not a marriage made in heaven...) And even my favourite Cafe Excelso serves fried bananas and fried cassava with the dreaded combo as a topping...

I've yet to determine whether this is a genuine food preference, or just a lumping together of two Western items simply because they are Western (in the way that Westerners might serve up tandoori chicken with soba noodles -- because it's all Asian, right? -- and here I am unaccountably reminded of the "Asian flavour rice risotto" that we enjoyed on one of our early trips to New Zealand...).

Generally, however, Indonesian food rocks. After all, two out of millions ain't bad...
