I have always done my Australian tax returns using their software application. It is a very nice piece of software: user friendly and reliable.

This year some tax information came to light after I had filed my return and as a result I sent a [paper] amendment. Yesterday after not hearing anything with regard to this I phoned them up from here in Malaysia.

Having dialed their overseas number the phone was answered immediately and after stating his name as i was asked the question: "As you are calling from overseas would you like me to phone you back ?"
Unfazed by it being a Malaysian mobile phone, or hand phone, or we say round here, we hung up and my phone rang promptly. I think that they have some special arrangement for making overseas calls given the caller number that came up.

So I was then asked why I was calling and after a brief explanation I was put through to the relevant section where the wait message got through "I am sorry but all our" before a real person took over.

Situation explained I was placed on hold for a few minutes whilst she found out what the status was, I was updated, promised a letter by a certain date and given a case number.

Wonderful. It is almost a pleasure owing them money.
