The gallery now known as Cemeti Institute for Art and Society has been the goal of a previous little trip.

The current exhibition -- Museum of the Ordinary Things, by Eko Prawoto (who also designed the Cemeti building) -- presents traditional tools. Not only are these humble pieces of workmanship in themselves unique and beautiful, but the collection as a whole "raises questions about which forms of knowledge get preserved and historicised, and about who decides what is worth remembering".

As always when I visit these places, I feel I have gained a new way of seeing something.
